Why NOT?
It is possible.
For example, the codersclub.org source code is updated by this method for now.

Bu if you want to preserve all changes that you made in your code, it is very complex task.
This can be solved only partialy and not for all changes.
Even special SVN/git clients can not solve this task totally...

It is not "another" solution.
It is a standard method using the .git repository.
The disadvantage of the standard unix SVN/git client is that most of webmasters can NOT intall such type clients on their sites.
Suggested by me the PHP SVN-client is a simple solution that can be installed by any webmaster at any server, because of it is a simple PHP script.
